A SCARCE PAIR OF .22LR (PARKERIFLED) ALLPORT PATENT PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER SINGLE-BARRELLED ROOK RIFLES, serial no. 6431 / 2,
for 1890, 25 1/2in. nitro reproved round barrels with matted top flats, open sights with two folding leaf sights with white metal sight lines and marked for 50, 100 and 150, bead fore-sights, the barrels Parkerifled to .22LR from .300 Rook calibre, Birmingham nitro reproof marks dated 1925 and signed 'BOSS & CO. 13. DOVER STREET. LONDON. W.', the muzzles with the 'AGP PARKERIFLED' marking, push-forward underlevers, automatic side safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, machined bead and wave engraving with fleur de lys details, the left sides with escutcheons engraved 'ALEXR. HENRY...EDINBURGH..LONDON', serial numbers to rear of undersides (serial No. 6431 defaced), 14 3/8in. well-figured pistolgrip stocks with engraved steel pistolgrip-caps and bead and wave engraved steel buttplates, minor losses at head of No. 6341, Hackett patent snap fore-ends with schnabel lips, weight 5lb. 5oz. (No. 6341) and 5lb. 6oz. (No. 6342), in their fitted brass-cornered oak and leather case with blank circular escutcheon, red baize lining with gold-tooled Alexander Henry Edinburgh & London trade label.

Provenance: The makers records have blank entries next to the serial numbers, indicating they were bought in items and not of their own manufacture. Many of the lower grade Henry rifles were built for them by Samuel B Allport, who was a major supplier to the trade and specialised in rook rifles.
Boss and Co. are recorded at the Dover Street address between 1908 and 1930 and are likely to have been responsible for converting the rifles to .22LR in 1925
